I’m still alive

By AndrewBoyd • May 23rd, 2008 • Category: About, Life, Recent posts

…just going through a weird patch in my life at the moment - the new job that nominally gives me more after-hours space for blogging has been fairly intense. So I have more downtime but less motivation to blog somehow :)

C is for Content (the third in the alphabet series) has been half-written for a couple of weeks now - like a good blogger, I wrote an outline of the series before I released A is for Akismet. It is still half-finished. Content is such a massive topic, so maybe I bit off more than I could chew…. while it is going to be a fairly big article, I’ve certainly written bigger.

The only blogging I’ve done recently was over at HumaneIA, recording my brief tiff with print on demand service moo.com. Speaking of which, first to comment on this post gets a 20% discount on their next moo.com order - I’ll be in touch with the discount code they sent me with their sorry email.

So, life goes on, and hopefully, On Blogging Australia returns to its normal sporadic posting frequency soon :)

Cheers, Andrew

  1. *snort* I am FIRST! W00T!

I don’t actually want the 20% off thingy so wanna change it to the 2nd comment and we will both be happy… I read all the dramas you had with them, so even more not interested :)

  2. Hi Kelley,

thanks for your reply. You will always be first to me :)

Now that moo.com have sorted things out, they really are my friends again.

That said, happy to pass it on to commenter number 2. Or number 3 now that I am number 2. Or something like that :)

    Best regards, Andrew

  3. I understand about the whole not-blogging thing (one of the reasons why I had difficulty blogging over the past few years - from pure exhaustion!).

As for moo, I was sorry to read about your dramas. I’ve only had good experiences with them, but I’m glad to read that it was all resolved!

  4. Know the feeling and completely understand. I hope the new job’s providing some joy/satisfaction/appreciation? :-)

  5. Hi Ruth,

thank you for your comment :)

As far as I am concerned moo.com really is my friend now, I am very pleased with the way that they resolved the issue in the end. I have an interesting post coming on the reactions of some of the blogging community to my little tiff with them - some cows are more sacred than others it seems.

    Best regards, Andrew

  6. Hi Naomi,

    thank you for your comment.

The new job is very satisfying, thank you. No small chaos and much potential to do good, my idea of heaven :)

    Best regards, Andrew

  7. Hiya Andrew and whatever pseudonym of the moment!
I just discovered this, so don’t know about your moo dramas. I didn’t know they were ‘print-on-demand’ for anything other than little cards and stuff- I got some Flickr moocards and love them. Spotrick is just being wooed at work by a print-on-demand mob who do small-run books and theses (he’s a uni library bod). I’m also interested in jobs that have vague prospects of doing some good somewhere down the line- usually work in health research. I haven’t been able to get a decent full-time job since resigning from something 8 years ago when they put the admin person on a higher salary than me (research officer). All the people I went through uni with years ago have far outstripped me job-wise- I started out earning 60% of the household income, now barely 10%.. crazy stuff. Oh well, didn’t mean to whinge- any hints on getting a decent job would be appreciated!

  8. Hi Kay,

    thank you for your comment.

Sometimes, life gets to be a bit of a drag.

I think that the secret to getting a well-paid job is to (a) know the right people within your chosen profession and (b) be remarkable in some way, such that you are known.

What would you like to be doing? What are you good at? I’m lucky in that the stuff I can get passionate about (user experience design and information architecture) is currently fashionable and more-or-less accepted by most of the people I work with.

    Best regards, Andrew
