Meg from Dipping Into The Blogpond has handed me this friendship ball:

It reads:

A ball is a circle, no beginning, no end
It keeps us together like our circle of friends.
But the treasure inside for you to see
is the treasure of friendship you’ve granted to me.
Today I pass the friendship ball to you.

While it might sound a bit corny, I’d like to talk about this friendship ball and what it means to me.

I started blogging seriously just over a year ago - the first post on my wordpress.com blog was in December 2006, and Facibus Reviews (my first self-hosted blog) in April 2007. I’ve been through a lot in this time - changes in personal circumstances, reflecting on loss, a lot of overwork, and experimenting with different directions in blogging. Throughout it all, I’ve had some wonderful blogfriends who have been as supportive and as wonderful as anyone I know through work or my offline personal life.

These online relationships have been deepened through the creation and growth of the Aussie Bloggers Forum. It hasn’t always been easy - we haven’t always agreed 100% on the way things should happen or when - but Lani, Snos, Meg and I have shared more in common than not. With the help of the Moderators, we’ve built something that has gone from 0 to 400+ members in a little over two months.

Throughout a year of blogging, Meg has encouraged me when I have felt down, sympathised when I have been hurting, understood when I’ve been too busy, inspiring when I’ve needed hope, and expressed concern when I’ve gone too far.

Thanks Meg :)

  1. Ah thanks mate *wipes a tear*. I was in need of a pick-me up today, and your lovely post did just that.

We have such a supportive blogging community and I too appreciate the wonderful people I’ve been lucky enough to befriend along the way.

  2. Hi Meg,

    you are most welcome :)

Sometimes, when everyone in our day-to-day non-blogging life is too busy to listen, it seems like all we have for support is one another. I am proud to be part of a community that includes people like you, Snoskred, Lani, Kelley, Nathanael, Karen, and Colin.

    Best regards, Andrew
