A farewell to the old theme…
By AndrewBoyd • Jan 31st, 2008 • Category: About, Recent posts…and welcome to the new!
The old K2 theme served On Blogging Australia faithfully for the last five months.

The time has come to try something different - welcome to the new look
I’ll write about how I did this the easy way as soon as I can. In the mean while, please enjoy, and I’d be grateful if you’d let me know exactly what you think about it ![]()

pretty!
I think it’ll take a little bit of getting used to the layout but on the whole I like it. Which is surprising for me as usually I find these types of layouts a bit too overwhelming to navigate. I think you’d done it well Andrew.
And it encouraged me to read a couple of posts I hadn’t read before - that’s GOT to be a good thing doesn’t it!
Hi Bettina,
thanks
Best regards, Andrew
Hi Lightening,
thank you for your comment.
You have hit on the core of my evil scheme - by providing multiple posts on the main page I am encouraging people to click more than once
I think that this is the true value of magazine style themes like this one.
Best regards, Andrew
Hi Andrew,
I like! I’m a bit like Lightening, except that I do love the idea of a magazine-style theme - I usually find them too overwhelming. You’ve done a good job. The advertising, even, is easily visible but not irritating.
My one negative comment is - I hate the background color. Probably caused by my ancient CRT monitor, but it clashes with the other greens and the yellow.
WOW!
I like it very much !
Hi Naomi,
thank you for your comment. I love that the advertising is apparent but not obtrusive - I was hoping that would be the case
The background colour was the cause of much experimentation - it was basically the least offensive colour that I could find that wasn’t grey
I will keep looking at alternatives and hopefully find one that works for everybody regardless of their browser or hardware.
Best regards, Andrew
Hi Jayne,
thank you
I am glad that you like it
Best regards, Andrew
Ahhh Mimbo! I was trialling this on my site the other night … needs a bit of tweaking for me to pick it up though so I might pick your brains on how easy it was for you to adjust to your needs.
Let us know how you go and if you come across any “issues’.
CB
Hi Cellobella,
thank you for your comment. Mimbo needs a little tweaking - I have an article in preparation that says what I did and how I did it that might help. If you have any questions in the meanwhile please just ask
Issues - there are a few (like sidebar control partially through widgets and partially through editing the Sidebar template file), but I still think that it is the right theme for On Blogging Australia.
Best regards, Andrew
Is it really this long since I visited you last? Very remiss of me! I have only just seen the new theme - very nice too. I have been looking at at variation of this one for a new site I am creating - I can’t help but fiddle with them but this time I have to delve into php - the site will probably be up and running by 2010
Hi Sue,
time flies when you’re having fun
PHP isn’t super hard so long as you follow the rules and do it safely - start with things that are known to work and just change one bit at a time, checking the result at every amendment.
Specific PHP code advice can always be sought from the Aussie Bloggers Forum
Best regards, Andrew
Knew something looked radically different. This new magazine style I am still not convinced about
it looks great found the front page too busy? It will grow on me Looks great and I don’t mind the soft green
Hi Suzie,
thank you for your comment.
It certainly is different
The front page is busy - please let me know if you still think it is too busy in a couple of weeks time (once you are used to it).
Best regards, Andrew
