NaBloPoMo enters last week
By AndrewBoyd • Nov 26th, 2007 • Category: Aussie BloggerI’m not sure what to do - NaBloPoMo finishes up this week. I’d intended to profile all members of The Aussies, but we’re fast running out of November.
I have got to 24 members. Not including myself, that is another 17 to go.
What I will do, at the very least, is include a link to all the people I didn’t get to in a round-up post toward the end of the week.
How has your NaBloPoMo gone? Have you been able to keep up with the posting schedule?

So far I have managed to keep up with posting every day, but I am sure that the quality of my posts have suffered. Some days I have nothing worthwhile to say at all, but because of NaBloPoMo, I post.
Hi Riayn,
thank you for your comment.
That is one of the big challenges of daily posting - somedays there just isn’t anything to say, and the daily poster has to resort to tricks, like having a store of “rainy day” posts (a bit like having a savings buffer financially). I kept to a daily posting schedule for months until my last relationship started to fall to pieces (and slowing down didn’t save it, sadly).
Best regards, Andrew
I haven’t had too much of an issue. Some days are better than others. Thankfully I have Ivy and Noah’s birthday this week so that will see me through until December. I have really enjoyed reading all the different profiles and finding some new Aussie blogs to frequent. Thank you.
Hi tiff,
thank you for your comment. Some days really are better than others.
I’ve enjoyed writing all of the profiles - time hasn’t allowed me to do them to any great depth, sadly.
Good luck with the birthdays
Best regards, Andrew
I was surprised to find the dynamic in my own mind toward blogging changed a little. It became more of an “obligation” and therefore not quite as enjoyable as usual. Which is kind of silly in a way because I had been posting most days anyway. BUT, in other ways I think it has forced me to grow as a blogger because I’ve needed to exercise the skill of pulling a “rabbit out of a hat” (or perhaps a “post out of a hat” would be a better description). This is my first year participating (I didn’t even know what a blog was at the start of November last year lol) and I’m glad I have.
Hi Lightening,
thank you for your comment.
Sticking to a daily schedule changed my perspective too - I wanted to immerse myself in the whole blogging thing so as to understand it, and daily posting was recommended as a way of doing this.
It can be an obligation - I’m thinking about what it would be like to be Darren Rowse and have that obligation 365 days a year. Some people might say that something that is enjoyed as a hobby should remain a hobby - I’d like to find out myself one day just to see if I could do it. Would you be a professional blogger if you could?
Cheers, Andrew
The immersion/daily posting is an interesting one. Somewhere around June of this year I made a commitment in my head to post as many days as I could. I very rarely post EVERY day but was posting around 90% of the time I guess. If I’m away I don’t post for instance. I have found the more often I post, the easier it is to post often if that makes sense. I guess you get into the groove of writing and thinking about ideas to write about. I don’t usually “pre-plan” what I’m going to post about because I prefer the “fresh, straight out of my head” type sharing. 2 days to go of Nablopomo and I have about half a dozen different things I *could* post on today.
Would I be a professional blogger if I could? YES!!!! LOL. I didn’t start blogging with making money from it in mind. I don’t really know why I started to be honest. But they say if you can find something you love doing and then make an income from it - that’s the best way! Well, I LOVE blogging. More than I ever thought I would. In fact, I would describe myself as passionate about it. Maybe too passionate some days.
My reservations:
* would that change how much I love it?
* would it change the nature and tone of my posts?
* would it change my readers view of me and what I have to say? Would it somehow affect the credibility of my posts?
* would I ever be able to build my readership to a level where I’d ever make enough to be considered “professional” (and what would be the description of a “professional blogger”?) - I’m currently a very small blogger in terms of readership.
* my lack of technical knowledge I think would make it rather hard to achieve.
* it would seem it’s a “niche” that is rather hard to achieve
Apologies for the essay but you really got my heart pumping with that question. I think I would be extremely happy even to make a small amount of money from blogging - enough to justify at least some of the time I invest in it.
Hi Lightening,
the essay is good

I think that the best way for me to respond is to write a post on it
Making a little bit of money is easy - and I’ll cover that too. Making enough to get by on is a lot harder. Consistency and a lot of hard work are involved.
Best regards, Andrew
I’ll look forward to that post.
I’m glad to hear making a little bit of money is easy - I like taking the easy route. LOL.
Hi Lightening,
thank you once again for your comment
The post is scheduled but not written yet - and it is directly inspired by your comment
Best regards, Andrew
