On Blogging Australia

Aussie Bloggers, Aussie Blogs

Hello Cayman Islands!

By AndrewBoyd • Oct 31st, 2007 • Category: About

Here’s a weird thing. According to Alexa, my highest traffic rank is not from Australia, but from the Cayman Islands.

You can see this for yourself - go to Alexa.com and do a search on traffic rankings for onblogging.com.au. Down the bottom of this screen are national traffic rankings - here is what I am this morning:

Interesting :) Most On Blogging Australia readers come from Australia - no surprise there. The curious thing is that I rank within the top 1200 blogs read by people in the Caymans.

Perhaps there are some old friends there who still like to keep in touch through reading this blog. That is great :)

If there is anything I can do to make the blog more relevant to you, please let me know.

  1. Well, I can’t speak for everyone else but I do drop by from time to time :-)

I think what you have to bear in mind is that there are still a very small number of sites in Cayman and so ranking highly takes relatively fewer hits compared to US, AUS, UK, etc.

For those who don’t know, the Cayman Islands (Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman) sit out in the middle of the western Caribbean, south of Cuba). GC, the largest of the islands is around 20 miles long and 8 miles aross it’s widest point. Yes, we are a small country.

I rank 8 here according to Alexa, (I’m going for one but I think that is a bit too optimistic ;-) ) and I’m not really sure how they arrive at their rankings, but of course, they only reflect data from users of their toolbar.

It was still great to see a mention for the islands on your faraway blog :-)

  2. Hi Maurice,

thank you for your comment and for the feedback.

These odd things crop up from time to time and it is always fun to figure them out.

Do you know the total number of blogs that are ranked for Cayman Islands readers? I tried to find out but Alexa wanted to sell me the data :)
    Best regards, Andrew

  3. I was going to say what Maurice said (well without the geography)!

My unusual one at the moment is “Netherlands Antilles” (6,201). I think that might have something to do with a stumbleupon outage in the Netherlands recently though.
I really must stop procrastinating, and get started on my fortnightly update….

  4. Hi Andrew,

Sorry but I have no idea. A lot of the sites are tourist industry focussed of course, but as to how many websites or blogs there might be in total, no clue.

Alexa really sell that kind of data? Gotta give ‘em credit for trying I suppose ;-)

  5. Hi Meg,

    thank you for your comment.

Netherlands Antilles is certainly not what I’d expect either - maybe they are Australian Idol fans there? :)
Good luck with the index update - many of us look forward to reading it :)
    Best regards, Andrew

  6. Hi Maurice,

    thank you for that.

The reason for my question was this: if I am 1,189th most popular, are there only this many blogs read by people in the Caymans or am I doing OK there? :)

    Best regards, Andrew

  7. Still crunching away… Seems there are quite a few Aussie, Idol fans. Don’t worry it’ll be over soon. At least it’s good for 2 posts a week during November (NaBloPoMo) hehe.

  8. Hi Meg,

you know how I feel about Idol :)

NaBloPoMo is going to be fun, and I am sure that you will not have any trouble at all with finding a post a day.

You should host an index party once a fortnight in a bar somewhere - I know that a lot of us look forward to checking the numbers once a fortnight, and it might be fun to get as many of the Aussie Top 100 in the room at the same time as possible. Or make it a separate dinner attached to a blogging conference, that would be good too.

    Best regards, Andrew
