Bite the next Prime Minister of Australia!

By AndrewBoyd • Aug 6th, 2007 • Category: Australian Odd

If you’re on Facebook and have one of the many infectious applications (like Zombies or Werewolves), head on over to Kevin Rudd’s profile page:

krudd_facebook.jpg

Directly under Kevin’s photo there is a “Bite this Chump” link. Astounding - we live in a world where anyone can offer to bite the man who will probably be Prime Minister of Australia within six months time.

Unlike the sad MySpace MPs, Kevin has taken the initiative and joined Facebook (where the cool kids are this week) - and I think that this says something for his capacity to lead the country (i.e. he can see which way the wind is blowing).

And to his credit, Kevin has seen that people expect interaction on a social networking site like Facebook - his team have posted the following message:

Hi from the Rudd team.

We appologise to the pending friend requests. We have reached the current cap of facebook friends and are in consultation with facebook to increase it. We hope to resolve this issue soon.

I’ve started exploring how governments can use blogging for policy development over at BlogDotGov - it could be that the Rudd government will bypass blogging and go straight to Facebook for the electronic consultative process.

  1. I’m not sure I want to make a politician my zombie biatch!?!?

  2. No thanks. I have Kevin as my only friend on My Space, although I asked Bart Simpson to be my friend.

  3. Hi swollenpickles,

    thank you for your comment.

It is an interesting phenomenon - otherwise sane adults that know one another professionally using these “tagging” (as in “tag, you’re the zombie”) applications - and imagine the kudos “Well, yes, you may know Princess Mary’s cousin, but I once bit the Prime Minister - it was on Facebook, back in 2007″ :)
    Best regards, Andrew

  4. Hi Colin,

    thank you for your comment.

There are at least 5,000 people who are Friends of Kevin - I am not one of them, though naturally, I sent an invitation (if only to challenge him at Tetris when he has more time).

As to Bart - are you talking about the cartoon character (somewhat underage and fictional), Nancy Cartwright who does his voice (attractive adult woman who sounds like small boy, not quite sure how I should feel about that)? :)
    Best regards, Andrew

  5. […] many thousands of other Australians, I offered to become friends with Kevin Rudd on Facebook. Like most of them, I used to work with Kevin in DFAT, although to be fair he probably […]
